My guinea pig had her back teeth filed Jan last year...she had same symptoms this year (loosing weight, not eating, sounded like she was going to be sick on one occassion)...took her back to vets...told me they would sedate her get a good look at her teeth and do what they have to do. Upon collecting her it was a different vet that did her teeth..."I've trimmed the bottom but didn't feel confident doing the back...she could choke and our best vet did one the other day and it died ,take her to exoctic if she doesn't improve within 48hrs"...got her home she can't even pick up food (think she must have trimmed bottom ones too short. Booked the exotic vet for Thurs fully syringe feeding now...which she goes through phases of hating/ not minding...but I just don't know what to do for the best...she's nearly 7...she seems bit uncomfortable with her tummy so obviously worried about bloat...i know the teeth is going to be a common problem with her...what would u do? She is a solo piggie as I lost my other one in October. Any advice pls?

I should mention she said they are not overly grown majorly. But slightly...guess that is enough for her to feel uncomfortable tho.

Truthfully at 7 I wouldn’t put her through any more, especially as she is now alone, I have never had good results with surgery on older piggies. Sorry to hear she is so unwell 😢

I agree (sorry). 7 is elderly and they don’t do well with sedation etc. (I’ve had Guinea pigs all my life, at least 4/5 at any one time always indoors and have lost 2 to anaesthetics over time).

Thank you for your replies...she just tried to eat a lettuce leaf for a couple of minutes as I held it...but couldn't, no teeth marks in it at all... its heart breaking... x

You could try shredding it very finely and see if she eats some

So sorry your GP is poorly. Could you try coriander as not much to hard to munch on.

is she eating hay and taking water etc?

I did cut it with scissors really finely and she couldnt 😭. Also tried parsley...I will grab coriander tomorrow thanks for suggesting that. She won't touch hay or water which isn't going to help those teeth. She did well with the sedation the other day but I'm worrying that she's going to have a long wait for the the next appointment to have them filed, she will then be weaker (as she has lost weight and just recently been sedated). Also the fact she is relying on me for food and drink ...I've been coming home on my break times...but just really feel for her

How is she today?

She is eating from the syringe now and again. Wheeked for food last night...I rang the exoctic vets today to see if they could bring my appointment forward but they couldn't...basically to give me advice and wanted them to check the teeth and mouth. Ill try again tomorrow .Ive read that they can take few days to get over any tooth surgery...I feel really mean if I pts if it is her teeth. Especially with that wheek. So im going to take things day by day i think. Thanks so much for asking ❤
