Help we are total novices with rabbits and we are on day 5 with our lovely mini lops- but these tiny (less than 1 millimetre, black with six legs) bugs are developing all over the hutch! Does anyone know what they are and how to deal with them?? Please!

Could be Weevils from the food pellets? Not a rabbit expert but had some in my wild bird food once.

I really hope it is! I can eliminate weevils😁! They just look revolting 🤮

If I've misunderstood the word "hutch" and your set up isn't just a hutch, but meets the Rabbit Welfare requirements Space Recommendations | Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) then great. If the rabbits are literally in a hutch only, and as you are novices, please look at the space recommendations on the link. There is some good advice in the "Lop Eared Rabbits" thread in this group. Good luck with bug elimination.

Please don’t worry! It is an enormous hutch (2 floors) with an attached run and an aviary type separate pen!

They look like tics to me 🤢

Amazing. Thank you. Happy rabbits. Worry over! 😍

They do look a bit like tics but I am no bug expert :( I would be stripping things back and giving everything a good scrub! And check the buns for any hidden bugs in their fur - Lops in particular often have longer fur than other similar sized breeds.

I did write this a few years ago about the health problems in Lops: http://www.rabbitresidence.org.uk/lop-or-not.html
My Dwarf Lop girl has very selective hearing and is mostly deaf and easily spooked if she doesn't see you coming.

Do you have a rescue neutered pair or a pair of babies?
