Best cage for mice

Looking into getting dd some mice for her birthday.

It’s been years since I’ve owned them so I’m looking for good cage recommendations.

A quick google keeps showing me barred cages. Surely mice need a plastic side cage with the bars on the top to stop potential escapees?

The minimum size for mice is 80cm x 50cm, the bigger the better, but hard to find in shops, the best one I'd suggest is the Savic Plaza 100cm x 50cm from pets@home. However remove the dreadful plastic wheel & ledge and pack out with lotsof ropes, climbing toys, hammocks ect. Replace with a minumum 21cm wheel. The bar spacing is OK for mice too.

The more they have in the cage the better for happy mice 🐭 Plastic cages with bars on top are too small for any animal as are most online cages.

Please go to your local Rescue as there are lots of perfectly good mice in need of homes and they will give you good care advice, that most pet shops won't. Happy mousing.

This is an example of a good mouse set up, with no sawdust or shavings which are irritants and can cause respiratory issues . There's good mouse info here too www.animallama.com/mice/mice-bedding/

Thank you. I’ve been looking to get as big as as we can afford. I’ve always hated small cages.

I was also going to get something like finacard as a substrate too

But that is a gorgeous example.

Thank you, it's actually my friends mouse set up, she volunteers in rescue, keeps mice, and uses her set up as an example to mouse adopters.

I personally love Finacard for Gerbils, I know mice can be a bit stinkier so you'll find what works best for you.

Yeah. It’s all about trial and error. They will be living in DD’s room, so if she finds them too stinky, we will have to adjust it
