My hamster won’t let me hold him

I’ve had him 3 weeks I’ve been trying to stoke him but he won’t let me touch him

What kind of cage have you got him in and how big is it? If they feel stressed they’re more likely to be shy.

They’re prey animals too. Some never take to being held.

Have you tried putting him in the bath with you (no water and plug in!). Then he can crawl over you

My daughter has 3 hamsters. One was fine being held from day one. Other was terrified and bit a couple of times. She started letting him crawl into a cup to take him out the cage and he allowed her to stroke him a little - used the cup for ages before he finally got used to being touched. Rub some clean bedding on your own skin to take your scent and leave in cage.

I had one like that. Horrible little thing, always biting! My first hamster however, was amazing! So friendly, loved to be held and she was beautiful! Like people, they have different personalities and I think the breed can make a difference.
