Puppy up the stairs!

My puppy is 4 months old and is already running up the stairs. He is safe when he does this. He can't get down the stairs yet. Should I stop him from running up???

Yes! You need a stair gate. It's really bad for his hips.

Thank you! What is a good age to freely let him up and see if he can get down himself?

I didn't let my dog do stairs until he was 6 months. He's a breed prone to hip issues and so I wanted to play it safe.
