Anyone know how to sex rabbits?

We have a lone rabbit that we have inherited, we want to find him / her a friend however we don’t know what sex the rabbit is. They are too young to be neutered yet so it’s important we get the same sex. Anyone know how to tell them apart?

That's 100% a male

It's difficult to tell when they are very small. I got 3 baby rabbits after my friends rabbit had an unexpected litter. They were 2 boys and a girl but it took 3 trips to the vet before they could say for sure. Luckily they have all been neutered in time to prevent unwanted litters.

Well your first 2 comments have confirmed it then Grin

Sorry OP I have no idea.

We got our first ever rabbits last month. After careful inspection the rabbit specialist vet thought they might be girls. But we need to go back at four months to be sure.

I've been on tenterhooks ever since terrified of an accidental litter. But there is a reason MN will struggle to tell you 😐

I would say that's a male.

The hole should look like a dot for males, a slit for females.

From about 4 months and if the bun is male, the plums will become OBVIOUS, and usually from 4-5 months the can be neutered.

Also, don't get a same sex baby to match them - two boys will try and neuter each other with their teeth.

Wait until this bun is old enough to be neutered, then contact rescues to find an already spayed female. A good rescue will also help with match making and bonding as this is tricky and can easily result in serious injury (bunny and human if you get in the way of a a bunfight without padding!)

Thank you, will this little one be ok alone until old enough for neutering?

I guess we will find out then what sex we have seeing as mixed opinions.

Baby will be fine until neutering, once the hormones kick in you wouldn't want a pair together at that point anyway, and it takes a month for the hormones to dissipate after neutering too.
