Found lice on rabbit

Just noticed my rabbit had a bald patch on his back which wasn't there last night. Have given him a bit of a comb and had a look and the skin is dry and cracked and I have found some kind of lice.

I have googled and the info I found says to contact your vet which I will do first thing in the morning. I am going to clean out his hutch, but do I need to disinfect it with something? Normally I just use a hutch disinfectant spray on the area where he wees and poos, but I was thinking I should use something all over.

Also I have another rabbit who is in a seperate hutch, but they share the garden together (although they are kept separatly in runs as they fight other wise), should I get him checked and treated as well?

Where will they have come from?

Thanks for any help, advice anyone can give me. I have never had a rabbit with this problem before.

Fur mites are quite common and easily treated by your vet. Your regular cleaning stuff should be fine and it is good to keep an eye on your other rabbit.

Mites can be transferred by wildlife in the garden, sometimes even in the hay and bedding.

Thanks for your reply bunnygeek. I contacted the vet first thing yesterday, but they didn't have any appointments till tonight so we are going later. They didn't seem too concerned, I was just gobsmacked by the sudden bald patch. It hasn't got any bigger though since Sunday and the rabbit seems fine and not bothered about it at all (although he is definately not impressed by my extra scrutiny of him!). Honestly I'm sure this rabbit is determine to have a dermatology book written just about him as he has had a couple of other skin problems this year.
