Hi. We purchased a pair of male GP a couple of years ago. This week one suddenly died of heart failure so we are left with one.

We are now unsure what to do. The one that is left is quite feisty so would probably not take too kindly to a baby GP.

Also we know that they are sociable animals so we feel mean having him on his own.

Any suggestions as to what's best for him?

Thanks

If you're on Facebook join the guinea pig uk group and ask for details of rescues that do introductions/bonding. They are too social to be kept alone

Hi, I agree they need a companion. This has happened to us twice and both times we introduced a new male successfully. Obviously keep a close eye first few days. A young male would be best. Only problem is you are probably going to have guinea pigs forever!!

This happened to us too. We got a baby boar and bonded them over a few days. He was fine with the little one. There are a few murmurs now and again now the baby is bigger but it's all huff and no action Grin The little one is going to be neutered shortly so he can have a lady friend when the big leaves us (although I don't like to think of that) Sad

Get him neutered and get a couple of girl friends for him.

We did exactly this - well, he has 5 girlfriends in a huge c and c cage but he thinks he’s winning at life.

The boy is the one top right, with 3 of the girls....!
