Utility room for guinea pigs with washing machine noise??

My daughter is really keen to get guinea pigs and I quite like the idea but I'm not sure I really want them in the main bit of the house. I would aim to keep them in the garden/shed for shade in the summer but would want them somewhere warmer winter.

The ideal place would be the utility room but the washing machine and dryer are in there. I could get them out for a run in a pen when the dryer is on but the washing machine is used more often and worried the noise might upset them.
Does anyone keep their gps near the washing machine and do they cope ok with the noise?

We keep ours (5 of them!) in a huge c and c cage in our kitchen diner. We have the tumble dryer on, the washing machine going 2-3 times a day and I Hoover the floor everyday. They don’t seem to care at all now. Initially they were a bit spooked but I gave them fresh hay and veg every time I hoovered etc and now they actually get excited when they hear the hoover starting up! (They popcorn - jump - with excitement and wheek!) Guinea pigs are fairly adaptable. They just need a warm comfy cage, love, hay and veg!

My 18 guinea pigs are currently in my tumble dryer room. They don't seem to mind the noise from two tumble dryers and really enjoy the extra warmth. Hasn't affected them in any way shape or form.

5?! 18??!! I think we'll just be starting with 2 Smile. Ok well that sounds encouraging, thank you

And good idea about giving them veg when the noise starts, i like that plan.

@snowpo I breed them for showing. Have you thought about what sort of guinea pigs? They come in so many different breeds and colours!

Like a PP said ours love the hoover, they live in the playroom and I Hoover right next to the cage every day and a couple of them love it and start popcorning. The playroom is also directly next to the utility where the washer is and on full spin the floor shakes but they don't seem bothered. If they live indoors they get used to general household noise.

Can I just ask, seeing as you breed them, can you get two completely different colour guinea pigs from the same mother ?

My sisters piggies live in her utility with the washing machine , tumble dryer and dishwasher and they are fine but they’ve always been there right from being babies , it’s also quite central so they see lots of people . ( odd house layout) .

Mine are fine with the washing machine next to them. The only thing is that it squeaks like a guinea pig at a certain point in its cycle and they always start looking around for the strange pig! Every time! 😂
