Holiday help for Guinea pig... rusty bars

I'm just setting up my GP to go and stay with a friends family while we go away for a week. The friends house is not so spacious and they have asked to use an old cage they had, which is smaller but still adequate. So fine. However I am just getting the smaller cage ready and the bars are very rusty. My GP doesn't always gnaw on bars but sometimes does.
Do I ask the friend to accommodate the non-rusty bigger cage, or just crack on with theirs? They were so kind for offering to help and I don't want to impose too much. Are the rusty bars going to be dangerous and make piggy sick?
