Hi Guys, I am new to all of this, but I am looking for some advice. I have 2 pregnant Guinea pigs due to give birth at the same time. There originally is 4 Guinea pigs but only 2 got accidentally got pregnant. When should we separate them from there pack? Also can they live together even if one gives birth a day before the other one? Or will it fight or nurse? Or the other Guinea pig eat it? I can’t find an answer and suddenly this popped up!!! Thanks please let me know!

Hi, I used to have guinea pigs but both boys, I don't know anything about sows especially not pregnant and birthing ones. I would really recommend the guinea pig forum website - I used to get advice on there, there's so many very knowledgeable people on there for advice.

If they are very close in due date and they are used to being together then leave them together .

Make sure they each have a safe area that they can disappear off to . Lots of soft hay , maybe a fleecy liner .

Guinea pigs are very gentle , even in pregnancy . They don't eat their babies like other animals ( I know rabbits can do) partly because they are born completely prepped for life . Fur , teeth, claws , open eyes .
Able to waddle about at only a few hours .
They are brilliant mums .

If you have two sows about to birth sometimes the hormones can trigger the other to go into labour , which is only an issue if the 2nd pig is way off due date .

Can you put up a camera /phone to watch them. They typically birth overnight , not always .

How old are the sows ?
And you have removed the male ? They can get pg straight away after birth.

The Mums will be hungry and thirsty . Your job is to keep them calm, quiet and well fed Smile . Then you'll be rewarded with the cuddles of tiny piglets .

And you must post photos. Baby piggies are the cutest thing on earth!

Whereabouts in the country are you? We are looking for new piggies.

You could always take some photos of the Mums-to-Be , poor souls are like little squashes with their tummies . And when the piglets kick their sides ripple .

Guinea-piglets ( actually "Pups" but when was that ever going to be as cute as "Piglet" ) are the loveliest of the newborns . Once they get going they re swift , needle clawed and popcorn-ey..............then adult life takes over and they just Lard Grin
