Sand bath for dwarf hamster help please

Hi, the sand I ordered for DD's hamster has arrived but the actual bath is delayed. What could we use in the meantime? And how much sand do you use? How often do you change it? Thank you!

A small sandwich box with about an inch of sand in it. Around A5 size would be great. Changed at least every week but remove soiled or wet sand regularly.
