How long to wait for new friend?

One of my guinea pigs died last night. He had been ill for a while and he was on medication but he just gave up and stopped moving in the evening and had gone when I checked on them this morning. I only had the two of them. How long should I leave it before getting the remaining one a new friend?

I know this might sound a bit cold but we knew it was coming and we did everything we could for him.

Very and it isn't cold at all. When you know your guinea-pig is ill to the point they won't make it , you do what you can to make them comfortable .
He was fortunate to pass quietly , in his own bed with his cagemate , so console yourself with that . It's the nicest way (and it's what I would wish for my old piggies , either in their beds or in our arms . Having them PTS , you have the make "the decision" . I've had 3 PTS , it was the only right thing , but still difficult . When our boar was ill, I just wanted him to slip off overnight , but he was still hanging on in the morning )

Give your piggie about a week or so. He needs to know his cagemate is gone for good and miss him.

Are you thinking about anther male ? Or is your remaining one neutered? (I'm guessing its another boar) you could get sow/s

Phone a few rescues and make some enquiries to find a friend .

Thank you. Yes I was glad he went in his sleep next to his pal. Nicer than stressing him out taking him to the vet.

I will probably get another boar as my remaining piggy isn't neutered. Although I could get him done and find him a couple of lady friends

If he doesn't show any signs of pining then I'll have a look around in about a week then.
