Over the counter pain relief for rats

Does anyone know of any safe over the counter pain relief for rats?

We have had a spate of illnesses in our mice and rats and vet bill is mounting. Does anyone know of safe over the counter alternatives to metacam?

You should definitely not be giving your pets anything which hasn't been prescribed by a vet.

In the nicest possible way, if you are going to have a lot of pets, you must be able to pay for any vets bills that might come your way.
