Please help - pet mice living in the garage

So dd1 arrived home Ilin the summer with pet mice which she knew couldn’t come in the house due to severe allergies.

They’ve been living in the garage all summer which was ok when it was mild but the weathers turned. She’s buggered off back to uni and left them. I’m worried sick for the wee things as it’s getting cold. Can I do anything to make them comfy?

It’s no life for a pet so she’s been told to get it sorted, her new uni flat won’t let pets in and she’s too busy to sort it so I can see them going to sspca which she will blame me for but we never took them on she was supposed to find alternative homes if she moved back and literally turned up on door with them...

Whereabouts do you live (roughly)?

I had pet mice as a child & they lived outside in a brick shed - that was in W London, which sounds not too cold, but in the 60s there were some hard winters!

If they have a lot of bedding to nest in, & perhaps a big cardboard box with some newspaper in around the cage/s, they’ll probably be ok in the garage

Oh, just noticed you mentioned sspca. Are you in a particularly cold part of Scotland?

We had small animals that had to be moved to a shed because of allergies. We used a Dimplex heater designed for greenhouses etc, with a built in thermostat. It kept them toasty, and was safe for a wooden structure.

The SSPCA will take small animals like mice and rehome them. Probably kindest for the wee things.
