Son's hamster has died...

This probably sounds ridiculous, but I've been looking after my DS's hamster for the past year as he wasn't allowed pets in his new home when he got a place with his GF. He phoned at the weekend to say his tenancy has been renewed for another year and he's allowed pets. He was very excited about being able to take his hamster back.

Anyway, I found poor little hamster had died overnight on Sunday. I have been in bits!! She was so cute and always pottered about in her cage making me laugh when I was working (I WFH). Anyway, phoned DS when he got home from work yesterday, struggled to keep it together to tell him the bad news but he was kind of, oh well, that's sad, what a shame and I was blubbing like a child! He lives a long way from me so didn't see the hammy much after he moved so understandable I guess. But, honestly, at 47yrs old and sobbing over a little ball of fluff, how daft to get so upset!

What I'm going to be like when I lose DDog, I shudder to think...!

Anyway, no question as such, but as wonderful as pets are, they break your heart too, no matter how tiny they are!

*Looks at space where cage was and starts wailing again...!

Sorry for your loss Flowers
I still think of my son’s hamster that died last year. They are small pets but they become part of your daily routine and it’s sad when they’re gone.

We have had 5 hamsters & every time one departs we are in tears & heartbroken. Really should move on to something with a longer life, but we love the furry little buggers.

Aww bless you Flowers

We have 2 old boy guinea pigs and I'm DREADING the day they pass away, I will be a hysterical mess. People don't understand how much character they can have if they don't own them.

Did remind me of the time I had a hamster when I was little and we went on holiday, left Grandad in charge of the hamster. Well some how it escaped when he was feeding it. Said it went under the sink and he lost it. So he bought me a new one, and I never knew the difference. Only found this out the other year at the age of 30!!! I was shocked and also in hysterics. Poor Grandad. Wonder where the hamster ended up? Hmm
