We recently took in a rabbit from a bad situation from someone that wasn’t look after her properly.
I took her to the vets to have a check up and for spaying. The vet called me about an hour later and said she is pregnant.
We aren’t sure exactly how far along but between the time we have had her her latest due date would be the 8th June.
We are keeping her as a house rabbit. We have a large side room 30ft-13ft, where we were allowing her free roam, but after she was destroying the carpet to use in the nest we have restricted her to a pen.
Can anyone tell me what they think of it? I think once her hormones have settled down she will be allowed more free time but while we are expecting babies, we want to keep her contained within an area to nest.

The pen looks really good, I also put a water bowl outside the pen as mine are profiling jumpers and i worry about them getting out by hopping onto the travel box lid and over and not accessing their water.

can she not go out at all? a nice outdoor run?

bunnygeek · 29/05/2019 15:15

The pregnancy is probably one of the reasons she was on a mission of destruction. Pregnancy hormones tell them they need to dig a burrow for their babies.

For now that enclosure is great for her, but I would recommend putting some welded mesh around the bottom 2ft of it as when she has the babies, they will be able to squeeze through the bars ;)

What size is her run? The RWAF minimum recommended area for rabbits to live in is 10ft x 6ft x 3 ft high. More info here

I have been letting her out the pen while I’m in the house and can keep an eye on her, and putting her away when I’m out. There’s some fur pulling going on tonight so I’m pretty sure babies won’t be far away now. She’s also been digging at the carpets today.
