Hi all members of the BASIL club Millie is having an off day. She has had spectacular diarrhoea today. I’m holding my nerve we’ve been here once before and it cleared up in 24 hours so fingers crossed. I’ve told her its a diet of hay and nuggets only today. She has been a bit judgey so also has a carrot .

Arranged to met a friend up the road who has a recently bereaved sow. Lucky as I might not have noticed so early Millie was sitting in liquid 💩. Thinking about it she ate a lot of fruit yesterday , hoping that is the cause. Millie needed a bum dip before we left the house. I took plenty of towels and kitchen roll. It reminded me of when the dc were small returning home with dirty nappies 😂

Its been an eventful day for Millie. A mini bath, ride in the carrier. Met a new friend and a cat, that didn’t bother her . Had her special biscuit, that pleased her and a clean hutch. As of tonight the diarrhoea has slowed down a lot and she is eating hay.

Fingers crossed she will back to normal tomorrow.

Millie!

Shock

Most likely is the excess fruit making her innards ferment but YY to the hay'n'pellets . Ignore the Judgey Face and tell her it's For Her Own Good.
Diarrhoea finished off our GP3 (Dill) and he was a hefty young boar , I put it down to too much apple but I didn't know for sure , his two wives were fine . The Rescue we got him from lost a pig at the same time (same symptoms) . It is so unpredictable Sad

Hopefully she's sulking after the bum dip and now eating hay noisily to punish you . Fingers crossed for losenge shaped droppings tomorrow .

FernieB · 10/05/2019 21:36

Parsley bouquets for MillieSmile. What a day! She packs a lot in to a day. Hope she's producing more acceptable pellets now. Perhaps she was just overly excited about meeting a new friend. Keeping paws and fingers crossed for her.

Still thick smelly mush 🤢 found her sitting in the bedroom awhile ago ( unusal) inspected her cuddle fleece, found a guinea sized cow pat. Once cleaned up she ran back to her fleece.

I guess she doesn’t like the smell either.

Millie greeted me this morning bopping her head as if to say I’m hungry what you got for me? Made a disapproving noise when I only gave her a head scratch.

Hutch smells a bit whiffy , will inspect closer after I‘ve had breakfast

It's a good sign that she's hungry (and that she told you off for your discusting neglect of her obvious signs of starvation. Staaaaaaaarvation I tell you ! )

Clean cage , hay/pellets/water/Special Biscuit and maybe she could force down a couple of 'lions that you can go out to collect in the rain?

C'mon Millie . the B.A.S.I.L Club members are rooting for you .

fortifiedwithtea · 11/05/2019 10:34

😂 she is chomping hay in a very exaggerated way. Like can you heard this human slave I have no real food you know. She has even forced herself to eat carrot, not her favourite.

Millie has produced copious amounts of solid mini 💩. She has been rewarded with a clean blanket and 2 mini sweetcorn.

Think normal poo will resume soon. Only a guinea pig owner can get this excited over poop.

Grin

Poonami legs are not good. Solid pooh (even if she could only manage to form teeny ones) is a huge improvement .

She will only eat the "No Real Food" food to stop her bum slamming shut .

So right about the unreasonable excitement over a pooh nest Wink

FernieB · 11/05/2019 15:09

Ah the joys of pooGrin. As a pig and bunny slave I spend time daily checking poo size and qualityConfused.

Glad Millie is making more acceptable deposits now. Good for her.

floraloctopus · 11/05/2019 20:25

Well done to Millie. We used to have one who produced sludgey poos his entire life but his cage mates all produced normal ones. Thankfully they didn't smell.

UPDATE

Millie made a full recovery from her fruit overload.

Two days later she had another misadventure. DD2 had been giving her lap time on a towel. She stood up to put Millie back in her hutch and dropped her. Millie fell about 4 feet onto carpet. I don’t think DD was holding her properly and poor Millie plopped off the towel. I was sure that would be the end of her and felt very upset that an accident would finish her off.

Millie’s breathing was very loud and rattling. DD felt awful and I didn’t sleep well thinking Millie’s time was up. Next morning the breathing was the same loud and rattling. But late morning Millie did the loudest cough/sneeze its ever been possible for a guinea to make! And no more rattling??? By some miracle the cough/sneeze cleared whatever was causing the rattle.

Yes Millie had survived to tell the tale.

Got some sad news today. The young bereaved guinea pig Millie went to have a playdate with a fortnight ago has died. Totally out of the blue. The owners are very upset especially as they had booked a playdate for this weekend at the local guinea rescue to find her a new friend.

If cats have nine lives , how many does Millie have?

Good girl Millie! She's such a star. Bit of a diva pig really with all the drama she creates. The Mariah Carey of the pig worldGrin

So pleased her tummy's better and that she decided to take up skydiving to celebrate.

floraloctopus · 25/05/2019 06:49

Well done Millie. Maybe she's wanting to be the Tom Daley of the guinea pig world. Are her teeth ok? Our sky diving pig lost his two front teeth just before xmas.

fortifiedwithtea · 25/05/2019 09:29

Thanks Fernie and Floral. No damage to Millie’s teeth. i was worried she had internal injuries as she hit the floor with a splat. But apart from the breathing she was unscathed.

Teflon piggie is enjoying her extended breakfast now

We are off to the vet later, our youngest pig has a small cherry sized lump (as in a small cherry not a small lump) between his chin and leg, he's still eating and squeaking.

EastMidsGPs · 28/05/2019 18:41

Oh Millie you are a worry!
We discovered Sadie was areodynamically inclined when she fell off the back of the chair 🙄 her flab ensured she landed without injury ... Apart from pride of course.

Not been about here as we are still at struggling to get Nessa's abscess and pus under control. Every time it begins to scan over, she has a chew this in turns leads to new pus forming. We've tried everything, sock, tubigrip, tubigrip and then that coloured self sticking bandage, self adhesive patches. She has managed to wriggle or bite them off. The plastic collar really distresses her. DH reckons she spends her time plotting how to get any dressing off. The hole is at least 10p sized. We've had long discussions with Dr Chris, she isn't convinced there is enough flesh to close the wound - or that we'd keep the stitches in. If Ness survives an op.
We have decided to watch and see. She is happy, eating, weeing and pooing. Running around and eating grass. Once she starts to deteriorate we'll make THE Decision.
They are a blooming worry aren't they?

floraloctopus · 31/05/2019 23:08

Yes. I just came downstairs (couldn't sleep despite having been up until 4am last night) and found our youngest GP sitting on the rug next to the C&C cage with zero indication of how he got out. Clearly going to the vet wasn't enough of an adventure for him Shock

I hope that Millie and Nessa are OK.

fortifiedwithtea · 12/06/2019 21:00

About a week ago Millie had another upset tum. She was smelly. I gave her a bath and a clean hutch. Only then did she decide a bout of diarrhoea and she had smelt so lovely too. Suspect this time was because she had made a pig of herself with a popcorn treat from P@H

This time The diarrhoea was not so severe. Next day, still messy. She got a bum bath and another hutch clean.

Following day back to normal.

So it seems great age = delicate stomach. Millie back to health and ripping up newspaper. Will be 8years and 4 months this Friday 😊

Ooooh Congratulations MillieGrin. It's good to keep your pig slaves on their toes. At your great age you've earned the right to be as much trouble as you likeWink. Glad you're feeling up to a good round of newspaper ripping (Currentbun's favourite game). Of course it's always best to do that immediately after your cage has been lined with fresh paper!

fortifiedwithtea · 14/06/2019 12:23

Thanks Fernie. We are celebrating monthly milestones now. Treats today 2 blueberries (risky) and a bunch of hand picked Yorkshire fog grass yummy.

The washing machine has finally broke after 19 years solid service and I have a big bag of piggie bedding to wash. Will have to sneak it round the laundrette
