Guinea-Pig Wedding -Bert's in it for the cake

My two remaining piggies had their Wedding Bonding Ceremony yesterday.

Both of them are 4yo (so a I thought they'd be a bit Darby&Joan, turns out GP6 is still a bit Albert Steptoe : you dirt-y old man Shock ).
I did read on a website that 'elderly' (4+) boars are a 'delight' and will basically bond with anything . Not sure about that , some are decidedly stuck in their ways .

This has been a long time brewing.
GP6 married GP4/GP6 nd lived happily with them.
We got GP7/GP8 two years ago....they had their wedding,,didn't bond

We tried again when it was just GP6 and GP7/GP8 .
GP8 attacked him

So now it's the two of them. GP6 has lived side-by-side (alone) since March 2017. He was very interested in our sow , they both chattered with their noses through the bars and slept either side , close together. GP7 was missing her old cagemate who she's been with for 4 years. .

Bath yesterday so they smell nice (and smell the same)
Their C&C was completely remodelled to make it huge , fresh cardboard, lining and fleeces.
Huge pile of ReadiGrass and the Guinea-Pig Wedding Cake (layered veg to be demolished)

Last night lots of rumbling, him trying it on and her kicking out at him, as sows do.
They settled in their sleeping area (I pegged a towel over the bars to give cover but completely open) . Bit of noisy 'cooing' at 4am .

They are enjoying their wedding breakfast now and might pose for photos .

LaCarmencita · 27/10/2018 15:05

Where are the lucky pigs going on their honeymoon?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2018 15:15

They have no plans to venture from their new lovenest ( except for cuddles Grin )

We cut them fresh grass which they troughed down and I've found one of their trugs to give them a new housie (scrubbed well)

They appreciate that the human types in the locality will get wind of their nuptials and release loads of fireworks next week to celebrate Wink

🍻 to Bert's new hen-pecked life 😃

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2018 16:18

Oh he is , he is Grin, he was henpecked by his other wives and knows no different .
He knows that Sows Rule and his place is to snuggle up to her and wash her ears .

There are loads of animals that have the female as the Alpha of the pair. GP7 has always been the leader in her pairing with GP8 , so it's just transfered .
If he knows his place (ie 2nd) he'll be fine .

I love this 70! You do know we’re going to need photos though, don’t you? Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/10/2018 18:38

We'll do some photos tomorrow . The pair of them have been through some changes after GP8 died and having to ensure GP7 'missed' her enough to accept a new cagemate.
Our boar is very tidy in his ways. little pooh nest in the corner, his food bowl isn't tipped over , GP8 just picks food up and throws it about , pees and poohs where she likes.
She was washing yesterday and had a pooh stuck to her paw, she just shook her leg in disgust to dislodge it . Grin

70 your tidy boar sounds a dream piggie. I love my sows but they qare not averse to pooping in their empty food bowl (dirty protest maybe? "Mum, it's empty!") and my abyssinian/peruvian likes to sit in her wee and poo! Then has the audaicty to protest when I have to trim her bum hairs because of matted poos!!!! I do love them both though. Would not be without them, ever.

Me and my pigs, we're a team.

MarcieBluebell · 27/10/2018 21:46

Any pics??

LaCarmencita · 27/10/2018 21:48

had a pooh stuck to her paw I had a pair some years ago who had no shame in wearing "poo shoes" on their paws. I would tell them "that i sso not a good look- you won't find it on the catwalk in Milan", but the little darlings just gave me their heart melting "are we cute or what" look. The little stinkers!

fireworks do they mind fireworks? My piggies not keen, though one of them is more relaxed than the other one about them- she is a little older, so that is maybe why.

Congrats Bert and GP7

It's great that they're bonding well and Bert understands he is to be subservient. I don't know what it about sows but they are messy. My boys were mainly a delight but Madampig is a total slob. Hopefully Bert can adjust and doesn't start thinking fondly of his neat, tidy bachelor days.

HeronLanyon · 28/10/2018 00:05

Congrats!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/10/2018 21:22

They are being very rumbley and whistle-y Grin

I put in the trug (GP6 has claimed this as his Boar Shed) and ordered a tunnel, adding a few things bit by bit.
