My 4 year old Peruvian sow had alopecia a few months ago. Vet tested for ovarian cysts but nothing found, Vet said most likely stress related. I had been unwell and that had contributed to the issue. Within 2 months her fur had come back in full and she was very well.
I went to pick her up the other day and noticed the bald patches on her flank and armpits agin. This time, things have been calm at home so I do not know what has caused it this time. Defdinitely not mange, and piggie is well in herself only hating being picked up now, just as last time. The bald bits are huge patches on her flanks and in her "armpit"/shoulder area. Vet did say although ovarian cysts not present, she could still have a hormone issue similar to PCOS in humans, (but without cysts) or thyroid issue but that there are no cures or blood tests available and as she is well in herself, not to worry.
Anyone else had any experience of this in their piggies?
