Fleas - cats or guinea pigs?

Hi everyone!

So, I’ve never owned a cat before and we’ve not had a dog for many years - certainly no dogs have been in this house and I’ve lived here just over three years.

Around three months ago, my child started playing with the little boy next door. They’re old enough to play in the front now and both myself and his parents leave our doors open for them to come and go as they please between each other’s homes.

Now, they have cats who are outside all day. We have had guinea pigs for just over six weeks.

A few weeks ago, I spotted a flea jumping on my child who was playing on the carpet - tiny, black and jumped off before I wiped it away.

Last week, we both woke up with itchy red lumps. Hers on her back and mine all over my arms and legs (same morning).

Tonight, I was sitting on the kitchen floor cuddling the guinea pigs and spotted a black flea jumping on the Lino near their cage.

So my question is - are these fleas from the guinea pigs or is the little boy bringing them in from his cats? I’m suspecting the latter but they’re both such good friends I don’t want to stop him coming over. I bought some spray and sprayed the rug and furnishings and I hoover twice a day but he’s here to play most days or she goes to his.

Or are they from the piggies? Google says their lice are white? I’ve searched in both furs tonight but can’t see anything. Any advice please? Thank you!

Cats I'd put my bets on, Guinea pigs don't usually get fleas unless another outside animal has transferred them. Far more likely coming from the cat

Had pigs for 7 years and we've never had fleas. I'd say cats.

Sorry about that. It'd be much easier to deal with if it was your own animals.

I knew it... they’re a lovely family, so kind with my children and the two little ones are best friends. I won’t mention anything to them but I’ll just have to get stuff for my house to de louse.

Thank you both.
