Cat has injured wild mouse

Sorry, I know this isn't a small pet but hoped you might have some advice.
Dcat has caught a mouse about an hour ago. We got it off him and have put it in a margarine tub with a cap (off a pop bottle) full of water and some cheese. It’s little heart is beating really fast and when we tip it out on to the grass it seems to be dragging a back leg. We are keeping dcat well away, of course.
Is there anything else we can do? Hoping it might calm down and recover during the night. But nature might take its course or another predator might get to it.
Poor mousie...

Have taken poor mousie to the vet, where they said the kindest thing would be to put it down Sad

Not nice when that happens. Our cat is a good hunter and a sadist Sad

Our cat is a proper ratter, brings us multiple rats from somewhere, occasionally a mouse or a bird. It's their nature. I don't like it but that's what it's instincts are. My other cat who's was always an indoor cat has no idea what to do with a mouse. The hamster got out once and he just followed it around the house. 😂
