Not a pet, but surprised visitor

Looking for some help/tips.

We have a mouse - suspect field mouse. It's in my living room hiding under my sofa. Scared the shit out of me when it appeared scuttling along the wall last night. I chucked a roll in room. Nothing. Bit of cheese - took that (when I wasn't looking) & not budged since. I've ordered a humane trap but that won't arrive til next week. I've put a shoe box with paper & a small water dish down beside the roll & more cheese. I'm trying to keep it in 1 room to make it easier to know where it is but worried it'll start eating through my sofa or the wall.

Any other tips on what to do until I can catch it safely?

You have no have of keeping it in one room if it decides to leave they can squash themselves almost flat to get under doors etc. I would borrow a cat.

Bloody hell, I had no idea. I've not heard it scuttle about, I'm assuming it's keeping well hidden when it hears movement. I hope this trap hurries up!

Oh and when the trap comes the best chance you have of getting it to go in there is chocolate.

Or peanut butter. Mice can get through anywhere. Not to be s downer but if there is one there is probably lots.

That's my fear! I'm trying to convince myself it nipped into the hallway when I was topping up my recycling bins as the door was left ajar. Not convincing is it?

I had luck catching housemate's hamster once by putting chocolate at the bottom of a bucket, with steps made of books going up the side of the bucket, so hamster climbed up, fell in, was contained.

Mice may well be more canny.

If you release it, make sure it's a km at least from your house or it will be straight back in
