How often to give guinea pig treats?

Was passing P@H last week, bought Millie these seedy thing on sticks 2 for £2.49. Can't think what they are called but she'd had them once before and liked them.

Treats have lasted a week and now she is gnawing on the last stick. If you buy treats, how often do they have them? What's the worse that can happen if she had them too regularly?

Millie till has a good appetite but is now feeling lighter. She is a bag of skin, water retention and lumps. The lump on her bum is the most solid thing about her now. We are lucky she is still with us enjoying this Spring time

My lot love those sticks too. Currentbun particularly loves the ones aimed at guinea pigs!

Mine get them whenever I have a voucher or there's a good deal on them or it's a birthday. I'm stricter with the pigs than I am with Currentbun. The pigs are quite young and so I don't let them have so many. I think it's like giving kids sweets - a few every now and then is not going to do any harm. Most pig treats are veg/grain based.

Currentbun has a P@H biscuit every morning (and reminds me about this if I forget) but he's quite an old boy now so may as well enjoy life's little treats. He particularly likes the parsley ones.

She’s had 4 in a week? Wow, mine struggle to finish one between them in that time.

We don't give them at all mean owners because they have a high % of wheat, so are relatively high in sugar. If you think that they can't have bread, which do these things have wheat in them?

We give parsley and fennel instead, which are their favourites, or watermelon if they haven't drunk a lot.

I thought parsley was higher in calcium? I’m mean and don’t give mine it because of this. Is it the herb fennel you give them or the root?

Mine are very fussy, they won’t entertain the wee coloured treats you get at all.

Lobsterface I think I worded my OP a bit confusing. Millie hasn't had 4 in a week but she would quite happily scoff that many. I meant there are 2 sticks in a packet, I bought one packet.

She used to have a pot of parley to herself each week but has gone off parsley a bit so we are giving that a break.

Millie is a very old lady at over 7 years old. She is at that stage in life when they are indulged a little bit more.

Mine have some parsley a day as a treat at cuddle time - a small Tesco bag between them or Lidl if I am passing (cheaper).
The only stick treats they like are the hay/leaf ones. There is one tied to their hutch door but it had been there a fortnight. When I go to Poundstretcher I get them a parsley bell, but their current one has been about for ages as I think it was the now deceased Mollie who ate it.
Also from Poundstretcher, I buy a bag of dandelion Nibbles (£2.99) they get a small handful after breakfast. Well I say this I have no idea what happens in the day when DH works from home.

For example I didn't know they were being given a fairly large bag of fresh grass a day! sigh
My pigs are rather round 😉 As to Millie, i'd let her have as much of what she wants when she wants but I am a pushover for a 'i am starving' piggie face

Mine have a bag of Cavelo Nero and some beetroot salad (Waitrose shop)
They have a parsley bell hung in each cage, GP6 just nibbles jis , GP7/GP8 destroy theirs!

Treat at the mment is Readi-Grass untill theu get some real grass.

GP7 peed on DH yesterday so she's blotted her copybook. THis morning they were wheeking for brekkie , DH said "Those pigs are just about climbing out of their cage"

Seriously , this is our pigs we're talking about. Lardy is an artform for them.

I have no idss what a parsley bell is...

It's like a solid dry grass/parsley compacted into a bell shaped thing with a rafia string.
We buy them in Wilko or THe Range (about £3 IIRC)

Or in the case of my sows ......its now a rafia string

For Christmas we got them trays of dry meadow grass . No idea why we thought this would work, the girls peed on theirs til the cardboard went soggy

We got the girls one of those dry meadow grass trays. They sat beside it and nibbled what they could without stretching. They then stood with their two front paws on the edge and ate what they could.
It was then ignored for days until Ness discovered she could climb onto it and sit in the middle of it.
No more of it has ever been eaten
