Got two almost 4 year old male guinea pigs, indoor for winter but plenty of fresh food, hay etc. One has been subdued for about a week and not really eaten since weekend. He is still producing poo although not as much! Took him to vets today and she’s given antibiotics and some syringe food. Said to go back in the morning for an injection and if no better they’ll give a general anaesthetic and do investigations, x rays etc (she said that she couldn’t see into the back of his mouth but teeth she could see were ok). Is it worth going through all this or is he likely just to be dying of ‘old age’ - he’s had no health problems to date and I can’t see how he can have caught anything as they’ve been indoors since October. Any thoughts?
