He's gone. Rip little piggie. We rescued you and gave you friendship with other piggies. I hope we made the end of your life happy.

Sad Correct decision to cancel vet and let him pass at home. I am sure he had a happy life with you Flowers

Sorry for your loss. It’s the absolute worst part of having lovely pets. Flowers

He was happy, he was kept alone until he came to us, he enjoyed his kale and blueberries and would run around the cage with his apple or carrot in his mouth and would groom us.

Earlier I lay him down in the cage but he started fidgeting and trying to get up, I held him again and he was calm. I think he wanted to be with me.

Oh Sad to read , I think though you did the right thing letting him slip away quietly in your arms at home. When they go that floppy 'rubber spined' way and cannot hold themselves , you know its a matter of hours at best.

Rescued piggies are grateful (in their own way) ,they're just too judgey to show it .
He had a good life with other piggies and a 'good death'.

I've cuddled guinea pigs to death (sounds bad but you know what I mean) so has DD, I've had pigs die with their cagemate and I've had one PTS. All peaceful ends .

Extra parsley all round tonight for the rest of the pigs .

Sorry to hear that Brizzle, it sounds like you gave him a lovely life and a peaceful end.

mumofthemonsters808 · 23/01/2018 23:04

Oh no, I really miss my two boys, every time I cut vegetables it's strange to not hear squeaking. At least he lived a nice life with your care and attention and died peacefully.

TinselAngel · 23/01/2018 23:05

So farewell then, Piggie.

Changednamejustincase · 23/01/2018 23:09

That would have been so much better than a stressful and scary visit to the vets.

brizzledrizzle · 23/01/2018 23:19

Thank you. He did have a good few last months, I'm sad that he was kept alone and ignored at his previous home - the parents rehomed him because their children lost interest Sad

So sorry , sounds like he had a peaceful end x

brizzledrizzle · 03/02/2018 14:41

thanks all, much appreciated. We're all missing him.

I wonder if one or two of our other pigs are grieving, or maybe I am reading too much into this.

It's been 10 days now and we have other young pigs who are a year old. One is not himself the last few days and is sitting on his own in the corner of the cage. He's eating and drinking and squeaking normally when I can get him out, another is frequently standing up and doing that high pitched shriek that goes right though you but never used to do that. Both have a clean bill of health from the vet, the other one is behaving as usual (we have 3).

I'm not sure what is going on with them. They all saw the body of our now deceased pig but not for long as one of them (the one who keeps shrieking) was trying to mount him :-(
