Guinea pigs at night

We are thinking of moving our guinea pigs into our bedroom (more space) but I am a very light sleeper. Do they make any noise at night? Many thanks

Yeah, don't do it. As soon as they know you're in there the squealing will start 😂. Giiiiiive me food 😂. Mine live in our kitchen area. They're free range. They make noise I can hear in my room.

Guinea pigs are so noisy, squealing and snuffling and the little purr noises they do. I miss having piggies but dd2 is allergic to hay :(

Thanks, I know they are super noisy during the day: one of ours is constantly wheaking but I heard conflicting opinions on whether they stop making noises at night. Might be best to stick to our current arrangement in that case!

It depends on the pigs, we had two noisy ones that woke me up even though they were downstairs, now we have some that are as quiet as mice all night. We switch the light off and they sleep.

Mine GP6 boar in one cage and GP7/GP8 sows in a C&C are in the small bedroom which has no door.
They can be noisy , usually early morning GP7 squeaks for breakfast.
If I went upstairs now they'd harrass me for supper (they need fed now so fair enough)

They like to chew cardboard boxes at 3am Hmm.
I throw a blanket over the cages, to pretend I'm keeping them cosy but IRL , it's in the hope that its like putting a cover over a parrots cage ( ie to silence them)

I go to the loo about 4am and get a chorus .

Fatso1978 · 13/12/2017 21:38

I have buddies. The cover thing isn't fool proof 😂. My four still sqawk at each other for the slightest misdemeanor 😂.

I hope the It's guinstas aren't outside. It is awfully cold up in the Northern Hemisphere these days.

I have budgies. Bloody autocorrect

BrizzleDrizzle · 13/12/2017 21:42

Budgies :-) Love the things but we had one who all night would squawk his name over and over again. I was a teen at the time and would come down and go 'morning you noisy b*gger' - you can guess what happened next....

Willowfrost · 13/12/2017 21:49

I had mine in my bedroom last year, never again !! They were really noisy and despite regularly hoovering my bedroom resembled a stable all the time !!!

Dillydallyontheway · 14/12/2017 00:12

Thanks everyone - I might trial it over Christmas to see... and don't worry they are not outside! They are indoor piggies but only had them a few months so been thinking about where best to keep the, in the long run. They are a little bit in the way at the mo, in our lounge

The only thing I'd say is that if they are in your bedroom they won't get human company as much, they really do need to be in the lounge where they can interact. Mine wait for me to put my hand in so they can groom me as soon as they hear me come in the front door Grin

I get what you are saying re the lounge, they do dominate our room but it's lovely despite the inconvenience.

Dillydallyontheway · 14/12/2017 16:42

Grizzle: that's a good point about interaction. I do love watching/ hearing them and would miss this a bit. I think from the replies I've got we're going to keep them where they are. Thank you!
