Talk to me about guinea pigs..

Hello everyone..

My much loved pug has died, we are all bereft - and we are considering getting some guinea pigs

However Blush I know zero about them; except that they like to be in pairs and I’ll need to neuter them

Do I keep them inside or out? What kind of enclosure do they need? Lifespan?

I’m willing to spend money to ensure they’re in a life of luxury, won’t be rushing into anything and I plan to research thoroughly

Thanks all 🐹

We have guinea pigs. They are lovely pets. They were very nervous when we first got them but have warmed to us and are pleased to see us. They sit on our knees and snuggle down. They are interesting to watch. They talk to each other (and us), explore, eat a lot and poop everywhere. YouTube have loads of videos about guinea pig care. You should watch a few of them to get an idea of whether they are the pet for you or not.

They are very sweet. I have noticed that I say hello to them when I enter my dcs' room in the morning before I speak to the children! They are not dogs, but are easier to look after than a dog. The best of the small pets I think, cuter than rats (though not cleverer) and miles ahead of hamsters etc. They run away from me but will sit happily purring once I've caught one. You can buy cute things for the cage which they will ignore.

GPs are lovely, better than rabbits and hamsters. They can't jump but GP#5 doesn't know that as we come down and find him out of the cage - he goes and sleeps under the coffee table. We have all boars, they don't fight but they do like to get a little, errm, intimate at times.

They squeak when we come in to the house, go crazy when they hear the rustling of a bag and if you turn you back when eating a banana they will bite part of it off. They run around with apples in their mouth popcorning!
