I don't see the point in buying a carrier for a one off collection.

Thanks.

Shoe box or Tupperware tub with a few holes in the lid & some paper bedding in the bottom. Keep closed with a couple of strong elastic bands.

I know what you mean about just using it once but you'd probably find a carrier handy when you clean the cage out too, or if you have to make a visit to the vets. They're easy to wipe clean whereas a shoebox/box will smell and wee will make it soggy!

Agree with Ponder

When we had hamsters they went in the carrier every time they were cleaned out and also for vet visits. Hamster sized ones aren't expensive.

But that's what his playpen would be for (when I cleaned him out) and you can throw away a boy? They're around £10!

Are you getting it from a pet shop? They usually give you a small box to take them home in.

TurquoiseChevrotain · 29/09/2017 18:34

No, I'm not

Something unchewable! We collected ours in a shoebox and by the time we were half way home it had chewed its way out and was zooming round in the footwell of the car - the dc were too nervous to grab it so I had to grab the only thing I had (my handbag), empty it out and put the hamster in there so we could get home - it was a fabric bag so got a bit of a chew as well Grin

Meant to say - hamsters are ridiculously quick at chewing big holes in things Shock

Nothing cardboard. They can shred it in minutes. How about a hamster ball held in a box? We went to the vet like that once when I broke his carrier.
