Tell me about budgies

I have always loved budgies and am finally in a position where I could have one (or more). I would be looking to get one towards the end of the year, so doing as much research as I can now. So tell me all you know 😊
I am also very much torn whether to get one or two as indoor pets, or have a few in a heated aviary outdoors. One thing that worries me is the link with asthma as I have a toddler.
Any info and advice would be much appreciated
