My little Himmy piggie (GP5) is a bit downhill at the moment Sad

(She is going to the GuineaPig Vet so I can see what's ailing her)

She's been a bit quiet (she tends to be the more reserved one in her group) but first to the food bowl and generally pottering about happily.

On Monday, DD and I sorted the piggies bedding and did night feeds. She cuddled GP5, all fine, then I noticed something (I thought hay) in her eye. We picked her up....she was bleeding Shock from round her eyes (the skin bit)
We cleaned her eyes with salt water, brought them inside, no bedding hay but solid hay cookies (I'm not 100% what caused it but I'm guessing hay injury)

Next day, much much better , eyes looked fine. But I noticed when she ate (and she still tanks it to the foodbowl and the parsley belll) her ears are "wiggling" when she eats like she's moving her jaw excessively.

So, - no hay to sleep in (her cagemates are Hmm ) solid hay or hay in a rack.
In at night now.
And we're syringe feeding her Critical Care.

If it's her back teeth, I'm hoping it'll be a quick remedy (not the easiest bit of a pig to access)
If its not teeth...........I'm stumped.

Wish us luck and soothing paw holds. DD is on Critcal Care duty tomorrow, vets on Friday.

Sad Poor girlie.

Merry Christmas from the purple pigs too. After worrying that Mrs pig was going to pop her clogs Christmas Day, she's spent all day attacking the alfalfa ring thing and parsley bell we bought them as a present and generally looking as happy as Larry. They were all very happy with their Christmas dinner (sprout, carrot, broccoli and herbs from the stuffing).

Glad tidings to all, furry or friend of small and furry. Smile

Purple :)
We get a new pig at the end of the week Grin

Smile squee for new piggies (and of course, we'll expect /demand a proper introduction plus Pigtures and a MN guinea nickname )....

How is GP5 now 70?

Millie has had a good Christmas. She had a hutch clean out Christmas Day and was left with a naice dinner of broccoli, green pepper and blueberries. By the time we had returned from visiting DM she had forgotten she had been fed and had a second dinner.

Today she had a long cuddle and a little sleep whilst snuggled in a blanket. Had dozens of poops whilst resting on me (result of over eating yesterday Grin )

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2016 19:48

She's a shedload better but not out of the woods fortified

Last night she did some droppings that were 'proper' lozenge shaped, proper consistancy but...the size of a grain of rice. So an improvement but not completely right.
I'm going to weigh her again and give her the meds. Bless her she fights like a hooked salmon but grudginly accepts them.
Though when she was sitting meekly we were far more worried.

Did Millie have her visiting piggie over Christmas or is that still to come?
Our piggies are benefiting from being Guinea-Two-Dinners.
I fed them , they told DD I hadn't so she did again.
Bert gets sent downstairs by the herd to rustle up more supplies (aided and abetted by DD - such an Enabler)

Today we had to swoop on Tescos for Emergency Veg (I did have a full fridge on Christmas Eve........).
Even been out with the grass scissors for them.

We had a Burgess Excel emergency today. Completely out but thought p@h would be open - wrong. Got a bag of Wagg from Asda that Millie has heartily tucked into.

I think no friend for Christmas. Not heard from the family. It was their son who asked DD1 if we could piggy sit, he is in Australia. The rest of his family go on holiday soon until new year. Praying they don't go away thinking we will go and feed (I don't know where they live) DD1 says they wouldn't be so daft. I wish I shared her confidence Confused

Merry Xmas from Beyonce and the girls & hoping GP5 continues with recovery. 70 may remember her from a few years ago guinea pig wedding thread and then, after being widowed, she had a new lease of life with two feisty girls from a local breeder. They are all still together - she, the grand dame, and much respected by the two young upstarts who bicker/ spray each other with wee and generally behave like unruly teenagers at the slightest provocation.

Having learned our lessons from previous years about pig presents (various sweet and brightly coloured treats and toys ignored in a corner) we went health food with some Xmas treats that promised dandelion and parsley flavours but just Xmas star shaped.

Pigs looked bemused at these and then continued loud demands for breakfast kale plus other "normal" stuff. The most festive we have managed is a brussel sprout but really they aren't keen. They really just want a big pile of juicy grass and has been so warm here I almost contemplated putting them outside for a couple of hours.

If anyone has found an Xmas treat that piggies actually like then let us know!

Mine loved this but it isn't exactly christmassy (maybe a wreath if you squint a bit?).

EastMidsGPs · 27/12/2016 10:34

Mollie and Sadie had a wicker ball stuffed with hay. It has been left ignored at the back of their hutch. It was greeted with looks of disdain when given.
The Timothy hay sticks have been met with more interest.

EastMidsGPs · 27/12/2016 10:36

I think I may be still being punished for sending them to foster care Confused

periwinklepickspoppies · 27/12/2016 14:30

Satsuma peel, gp3 was leaping with delight when we gave him some.
Gp4 is now here, a brindle Abyssinian as yet unnamed.

Xmas Grin Merry Christmas to Beyonce and her girls (I remember The Wedding)
Glad to hear she's still tickety-boo

I ran out og pellets a couple of weeks ago and had to plunder the Guinea-Pigs Fruity Treat Biscuits for roughage. Suffice to say if I'd presented them at Christmas they'd have been well judgey.
Parsley bells otoh and gratefully recieved.

We need pigtures of your new Abby boy peri once he's settled in. He can be incognito and nameless until inspiration strikes.

GP5 was given her meds by DD today (I need to show her how much to draw up but she had to practice getting them down her little throat safely. DD did pretty good Smile )

I so wish I'd thought if Beyonce as a GP name.
I'd love to sit at the vets as they called out Beyonce EastMids Grin

Just to update- GP5 was PTS today.
She took a huge downturn so we had to weigh up what was best for her.
