DH just fed gp's mowed grass- worried

Just gone outside to feed our GP's to discover their veg bowl topped with mowed grass that DH has just cut. Whipped away straight away but worried his much they have eaten. Just told DH off! Should I be worried?

Mine always have a handful of cut grass when we mow the lawn, they have never been badly affected by it.

Infact they start squealing as soon as we get the lawn mower out now.

Thanks Lilly. Husband thinks I'm bonkers but read somewhere its not good. Maybe they will be ok then.

No you're not bonkers, I had read they shouldn't eat loads, because they eat it too fast I think. But mine have never had a bad affect from it.

Cut grass starts fermenting faster and can cause gut upsets and bloat, it can also be tainted by oil from the blades so you're right OP it's not ideal

No it's not good as the heat from the mower can start the grass fermenting and it can be quite nasty. Hand cut grass is obviously absolutely fine.

But I'm sure lots of people do this and 9 times out of 10 the piggies and bunnies will be fine. In your place I would just keep a very close eye on them for the next day or so. Or phone your vet for advice if you are really worried.
