Guinea-Pig Wedding at 70s House ;)

Today , we decided the day was ideal to marry our guineas.
It was nice out with no threat of rain, so DD and I could put them out (still in their respective runs) while we emptied, cleaned,disinfected and neutralised the Pighouse.
We put a good layer of Ecobale (equine cardboard bedding) on the floor and the Haybox plus a trug full of hay.

In the run they've been sitting together at the bars chatting.
So when they were introduced (in the kitchen) GP6 (our boar) was highly delighted sniffing the girls (All of them, no favourites )

They all piled into the Pig Wedding Cake, there was alot of hoiking food from each others mouths.

We put them in the Pighouse , they were all Yeahhhh at the space and a bit When was this decided at the Ecobale, it's funny to walk on.
GP6 decided the trug was his ManPad.
He tried to get up close and personal with GP8 and got kicked, both legs, wallop.
I've just peeped through the window. All in the haybox scoffing naice hay. After breakfast, a day of grazing,a Wedding Buffet, they have room for hay

DD has taken photos so I'll upload once she's emailed them.

Congratulations to GP6 and his harem. Glad it all went smoothly. Hopefully the girls will settle down well together for a good gossip about to keep poor GP6 under the paw. I've given my boys an extra bit of parsley each to celebrate the day, so they're all very pleased for the 70 pigs. Looking forward to the pigtures.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, unfortunately, it hasn't gone as smoothly as I'd hoped Seems like GP4 (tricolour sow) and GP7 (new long haired) are both strong minded females , each leaders of their own packs and lets just say, they didn't see eye-to-eye.
I had thought that teeny GP8 would be the one to cause the aggro, she fairly bounced out at GP6 when he was rumbling (like the Tasmanian Devil)

So Ding Ding back to your corners. We've put the two new girls back in the cage for tonight (DD was worried about her new girl and I didn't want to risk injury).
Trouble is though, the cage (it's 4'x2') is too small for long term living.
I'm going to get out the C&C panels tomorrow and get DH to fix a non-permenant divide down the middle so they can have half the floor space each.
We'll have two areas of 6'x3' and I'll need to get some temp hay boxes for each side.

Sorry to hear that. Poor GP6 was clearly looking forward to 4 wives and he's now had to divorce 2 of them after just one day. Is that a record? Clearly you've ended up with two Queen Bees. Hopefully they'll settle down soon and learn to tolerate each other or at least keep to their own corners.

I've divided the Pighouse with C&C so they have about half per group (nicer for the new sows to have more room and the Resident Pigs have got their much adored Bookcase hidey back.
Might try in a few days cuddling the two Alpha Females together and see from there.
They are lovely girls , I had anticipated that sows can be tricky to blend though so we'll play it by ear.

Lavender oil. Spot behind their ears .. worked for us.Although one did end up with a frilly ear from being nipped

They are pootling round their Pighouse , very "It's like that episode of 'Steptoe and Son where Harold divides the house" they wailed.

They're not too grumpy though, it's all to their liking (so far) my new sows are liking their big box of hay.

And they're all jiggered after a long day eating grass (DH and I had a day's leave so we spent most of the day outside)

at the Steptoe reference. Am sure they'll all get along eventually. Have only ever had 1 sow who didn't bond, either with other piggies or humans.
On reflection the rescue shouldn't have regained her. Anyway she went to live with bro and led a feral life.
Yours all used to other pigs, they just need to get used to being a blended family

My new females had been living with other sows in Rescue but our TriColour Sow is very much The Guv'nor.

She was boss when we had GP3, she is boss with GP3 .
We'll keep them chatting a while,

Bert says he'll give his new wives visiting rights. Not so much "Modern Family" as "Game of Thrones"

Arg that should read GP3 and GP6 (I'm getting my GPs jumbled)

I know it's ended in divorce and GP6 is probably busy sorting alimony (2 slices of cucumber and 4 parsley sprigs weekly) but we still need pigtures

DD did take pigtures on her iPhone (they are all pootling in the indoor run, scoffing)

It's not a D-I-V-O-R-C-E as such, more a suspending of hostilities.
At the weekened DD and I will send the Alpha Pigs (GP4 and GP7) off to a Girlie Spa (ie long bath) and let them pootle together in the big run.

Then we'll bath the rest of them (just a quickie refresh bath, don't want to overdo it on the washing) and try them again.

Are you and your DD trained UN peacekeepers? If you need back up forces, Current Bun is well practiced at separating pigs. He lies down between them and it takes them a while to work out how to get round the big fluffy mountain (sometimes they climb over).

Hope the girls enjoy their spa day.

Whenever DD says "GP5 go round GP6 , don't just barge him out the way" and I say "GP5 , you'll need to take a sandwich for the journey to get round his mahoosive rump " I get the > look from DD

Here you go 70 would this one do? Saw him at a farm park over half term...DS1 was greatly amused to find a mahoosive version of our Ginger Pig

Hope your little group all settle in together eventually. I'm sure all the spa bath activities will help.

They are absolutely adorable. I love the way GP6 is asserting himself by taking charge of the plate "leave this to me ladies, it'll take a man to deal with a stack of veg this high". And the two Queen Bees sizing each other up in the background. Looks like a lovely herd - really hope they can all settle together in time.

I haven't ever been to Canada Fernie but I'm just going to guesstimate where they'll land if they're swimming over, then go and pick them up........

I love a good solid pig, not so keen on these fancy crimped or fuzzy long coats.
My Himalayan is like a rose amongst thorns she reckons, a rare beautiful Crested Himmy.
I haven't got the heart to tell her that In The Wild, she wouldn't have much chance of survival .
Good job you've got me to pander to you GP5, the wildest thing you need to do is wrestle the leaves off a sweetcorn.

I'm the same - I like a pig to look like a pig, not too frou-frou! My DD us desperate for a fog and keeps showing me pictures of little fluffy tiddly things that Gingerpig could probably squash if he sat on them. I'm a bit meh - if I'm having a dog, it has to look like a dog

70 your pigs are all absolutely gorgeous! I love a good solid pig too. Your boar looks totally huggable. There is something about a herd of pigs that is very endearing...

Mine all have smooth coats apart from my older satin girl who is a coronet (I think - basically like a crested but with long hair not short?) She is beautiful though, even if her coat is a pain to keep nice! My two boars are hurtling towards the grand old age of 5 and are basically known as the furry lumps of lard
