Help me convince DH we need some piggies

We have kept rodents for the last few years. I'd love a dog or cat but work and allergies make these impossible.

Sadly we lost our last remaining gerbil today. Silver was an antisocial, grumpy sod from the off, he disliked other gerbils, people and was happiest climbing up and biting my ear and hair. He outlived all his little mates by 1 year, which was the happiest year of his life (Silver didn't do sharing!)

Now, we love having pets. They add so much to our family.

For the last couple of years I've been quite taken with having guinea pigs. DH isn't convinced. He thinks they will take to much care and suggested a house bunny (yeah, that'd be easier!)

Everything I've read about piggies makes them sound ideal. We love sociable pets and piggies are meant to be very sociable. We eat loads of fruit and veg so always have these in, live very close to a good pet shop so would be able to supply plenty of hay and piggy food and toys. There is also a really good vets in our village too.

Please help me sell getting a couple to DH, I'm hoping with your help that this time tomorrow we will have a couple of new additions to the family!

Here they are, more settled. Fred is enjoying some apple and George wants to see what the camera is doing.

They had a little explore of the living room this evening, they were so relaxed chatting happily. George is rather taken with DH and it's looking reciprocal! !

I'm trying not to look for more things. DH is threatening to take away my credit card and he doesn't know about the second splurge! !!

1 week in and the boys now rule the roost!

They are currently doing laps of the living room calling to each other and jumping all over the place. They live weaving in and out of stool legs and seem to be playing hidey boo!

They have settled beautifully and we are so glad we have them. DH even told me off at the farm shop because I didn't get the boys some carrots :)

Thanks everyone for the help and guidance.

Aww good to hear they've settled so quickly (though you do know they're on the Honeymoon Period and in about 3 weeks they'll be confident enough to let their masks slip and be right little toads Grin )

Boars are lovely and cuddly, and have a lovely boary smell (Aroma de Boar, my DD calls it)

When we got our most recent addition (GP6 last April) he got right under our skin from the get-go.
When I cuddled him (before I handed him to DD) he snuggled up to my neck, chattering while he dandled his legs down .
How could we resist a hog who dangled his little leathery legs Grin

Prepare now to make PigVeg shopping trips on the way home and search out some bargains in the Supermarket reduced bit.
I bought flowery brussel sprouts for mine (reduced to 35p) they loved.
Chicory
Red Chard
And there are always salad bags reduced (make sure there's no iceberg) mine eat them before they go out of date

Glad to hear they've got their paws under the table and have started training your DH! We will need 'pigtures' of your boys to coo over.

LaurieFairyCake · 13/03/2016 07:03

This is the loveliest thread. I've never had guinea pigs and knew nothing about them ( loads of cats/dogs/chickens/bunnies).

I really want 2 now after reading this. Your photos are lovely. Can't believe how friendly you made them sound.

They do sound lovely. I was a little confused at first though (the thread came up in active to I didn't see the small pets bit) as I assumed the op was talking about pigs that go oink. Was a little Confused.

Also shocked to hear them referred to as exotics and those vet bills!

Already there 70! We have a packed veg drawer.

They start squee-ing about ten to six now because they already know that's when they get out for their mad half hour then cuddles.

Playing chase in their tunnel then watching telly.

How lovely 😊
They look like our dear departed old Sophie although she was sandy coloured she had the same 'hair style' and because she always looked like the stuffing from a burst pillow was much loved by the children next door (and beyond) heloed by the fact she never willingly used her legs, and consequently loved being carried and cuddled by anyone who offered 😊

Helped not heloed!!
