New piggies tomorrow!

About three weeks ago we lost one of our lardy boars and the remaining pig has been a bit sad. Our local shelters haven't had any guinea pigs in at all (which I guess is good) but after chatting to a very lovely lady in the pet shop we're off to see three lady guinea pigs that are unwanted by their owner and about to be made homeless. The remaining Mr pig has never lived with a female, let alone a full harem so I'm not sure what to expect. The ladies are tricolour sisters that are apparently fully grown.

It is all very exciting. I'm really hoping Mr pig and the ladies like each other. Do I need to quarantine them first? My original two came from the same place so I didn't even think about it.

Mr Pig is neutered isn't he (memory cogs whirring). Are you taking him with you to meet the girls and let them touch noses?
If there's a neutral area there you could let them wander together (they'll probably just sit and quiver like jellies )

We had to separate GP3 and GP6 from our girls because they were going through their post-neuter so no alternative. We put the winter cage inside the Pighouse so they could chat but in safety. By the time they met properly , they were used to each other and happy to meet up.
When I got GP3 from Rescue (at 6 weeks) we bonded him with lardy boar GP1 the same day. (I worried about Pig Germs later)

Maybe give the girls a couple of days to settle (your boy will know they are there ) do your complete deep cleanse to make the accomodation neutral.
Then you can bond them (we use a clean paddling pool on the kitchen floor)

It'll give you a chance to work out their piganalities too and see who's Boss.

Clue: it won't be Mr Pig. but our neutered boars highly recommend married life. Except the sow pee. Copious and they can pee straight out behind them.

Mr Pig is neutered (about a year ago)-I love the idea of baby pigs but we sadly don't have the space. We'll take him with us to the lady's house and let him have a sniff through the carrier bars. We have two hutches and a huge run so we'll put the small hutch in the run and let the ladies run around outside it to start off with. We're actually away this weekend so it might be better to wait until I'm around to put them in together full time. Next week is a quiet week in work so that might be good. Thanks for the advice!

I will post pictures when I have them. I don't know if they have names yet. I'm very excitedly thinking of some just in case!

We've been to see the new piggies and they are fantastic! Whoever had them before must have handled them a lot because they are really friendly and inquisitive. Mr pig was chattering away to them which was lovely to see. The actual owner who took them in is on holiday so we're bringing them home early next week (we want to have a quick chat first about their ages and medical history).

Is it really bad that I've been on the baby names board for inspiration on what to call them?!

Our girls had names before we got them but I never found out if any of the boars did.
We did lists for the girls (we knew they'd be female but had no idea of colour beforehand)

Sometimes you are stumped, especially if your girls are all the same colourgroup.

Our tricolour is Trinity , but we liked Tilly as well (which is what GP5 would've been. That or Elsa if DD chose her)

We finally have the new piggies! They are absolutely lovely. They're in their new house and seem very happy with it. It is already obvious we have a bossy pig, a nutty pig who likes running around and a shy pig.

Considering they've only been here since 2pm this afternoon they seem to have settled in remarkably well. All three of them are out and eating, we've had popcorning from nutty pig and even a bit of quiet squeaking. They are too good at spotting the cancer and running away so no pics as yet but hopefully some tomorrow. I think they are going to be very tame.

Mr pig is looking very interested at the prospect of living with girls...
