I had hamsters for 10 years till I was 18. Had a few hamsters and would never get a Russian dwarf one. It was the only one that would never tame and had to be handled with sheepskin gloves as it bit. The normal sized hamsters are great for sensible kids 8/9 and older. Once the kids are at a stage where they understand you can't squeeze them.
