Our fat little pig has passed away

We had two boys. 4 yrs old. They were both absolutely fine last night. I had given them some fresh hay and cucumber at around 10 pm. Today Choco has died. I really don't know why. My DC are gutted.
He wasn't showing any signs of illness yesterday. We are gutted.

Very on the passing of Choco. But sometimes there is no warning, no reason other than the fact it's "time".

Our older boar (nearly 4) did exactly the same last year (though TBH , I noticed the 'signs' of age, he was starting to look a bit rat-faced and middle aged ) .
He was in his run all day, had a cuddle from DH, supper, judgily looking for breakfast...... some time during the day he went with his cagemate in attendance. DD found him

The fact Choco went during the night, in his cage , with his cagemate (who will 'know' ) is a comfort IMHO.

Now you have upset DC and you'll need to bury or dispose of him (make sure he can't get dug up by foxes ).

We are having a little ceremony after school tonight.
And yes, Ginger- his brother does seen decidedly quiet.

It's ShopGirl who has the elderly piggie who is unwell, very news.

Ginger will be very quiet, they do form close bonds.
When we had a lone breaved boar, (twice) DD had the cage in her room until we got a match up.
Trouble is, older boars are the most tricky.
Depends if you want to get back into the cycle of another pig, then another one.

My DD made little 'gravestones' from leftover floor tiles and a permenant marker. And we put ours in a sealed bag/ Lock'n'Lock box with some of their favourite leaves.
(Bear in mind, they go a bit puffy, whiffy and leak clear fluid from their nostrils )

Until your DC are ready too say goodbye you can leave Choco in the cage with Ginger to say goodbye. (We left ours overnight but they were sleeping out in the Pighouse. The pig that is left needs some alone time to dwell. )
It is a pitiful sight though

So sorry to hear about your boy. It is a sad day for pigs today.

Hope Ginger is rallying and enjoying extra cuddles and treats.
