I think my rabbit is dying

I'm heartbroken. She stopped eating this morning so we took her to the vets. They've kept her in overnight and are syringe feeding her, but they've said it doesn't look good. I guess I'm just posting on here because nobody will say she's just a rabbit.

No pet is ever 'just a pet'. They are part of the family and bring joy and worry just like human family members. I miss my previous bun every day - she was a huge part of my life at a tough time. My current boys (bun and pigs) are equally part of my family and I worry like mad when they're under the weather.

I really hope you have good news from the vet.

No, there is no such thing as "just a rabbit". How old is she?

Very Sad but no-one here will say "just a rabbit" you are right.

Hopefully your vet can turn her round. They can put her on a drip and get food into her ( I'm going to sound a bit mean here but sometimes with small furries you have to be a bit 'cruel to be kind' and tell them that really you do know best. The vets and vet nurses will have experience of feeding recalcitrent little animals )

Crossing everything for her, and you acted quickly which will stand her in good stead.

I have to add that bunnies have a habit of scaring the shit out of you and start leaping around like nothing happened a few hours later. I hope that is the case this time. Thanks

Thank you everyone. We're not sure how old she is, she's a rescue. But I don't think she can be much older than one. She was badly neglected by her previous owners and left in a hamster cage. She's bonded to our male rabbit and he's spent all evening hoping around the house looking for her :(.

I bet the vet puts her right. Maybe she got hold of something that she shouldn't have eaten and it's upset her stomach? The problem with house rabbits is the bloody stuff they eat that's not good for them. Wallpaper paste being one of them

Bit of an update. Our bunny still isn't eating and is staying in the vets for another night :(. I'm really not sure what we're going to do if she doesn't start eating soon, as we can't afford to keep her in the vets indefinitely.

Sorry to hear this. Rooting for your bunny. My boy has paws crossed and is prepared to donate some parsley to tempt her.

A couple of weeks ago keepswimming123 had a thread saying her bunny had stopped eating and thought she/he was going to die. As digestion is really important in rabbits and I know coriander is good for digestion in humans and animals alike I suggested to give the rabbit some. Within the hour the rabbit was leaping around and back to normal after not eating all day. Parsley with work as well buy coriander it more pungent and tends to work better.

I will ask the vet to give her some coriander when I speak to her tomorrow. I think I'll buy some for the other two rabbits we have as well. Thank your boy for me fernie :)

Parsley or coriander might be enough to get her eating YY. Once greedy little furries stop eating, they get gut stasis so hopefully your vet is syringing some soft food into her (like Critical Care type) so her guts kept moving.

Our pigs love parsley, if they are ever unwell, parsley and fresh cut grass is what we reach for .
Hopefully tomorrow will bring you better news .

GI Stasis is such a worry for bunnies, and I am so sorry you are going through this. If it helps, we have had numerous episodes of this and touch wood they have all pulled through. She is in the best place with the vet, they can monitor her, give her Critical Care to try and get her eating again, keep her fluids up and give her mobility drugs. I hope for you all that she is fine.
My bun is also very poorly at the moment. He has a nasty bacterial infection that may have become resistant to antibiotics. We will continue to medicate and hope he turns a corner. I hope your bun does too. Let us know Thanks

I hope your bunny gets better too nice. The vets are syringe feeding her, and she's still pooping so her gut must be moving somewhat. I'll be calling the vets this morning and I'll ask them to try her with coriander and parsley. I'm really hoping it's good news today, fingers crossed!

She's better! Not completely out of the woods yet but she's home and eating. Thanks for all the support on her. I've added corriander to the shopping list from now on :)

Yay! I'm so pleased. Raspberry leaves are also good for bunny tummy. :)
