Doe your guinea pig stand up on back legs?

I didn't realise until recently that they could do this and it is the cutest thing ever. GP1 gets very excited at the prospect of treats and stands up when she hears us coming. Very clever of her too as it usually results in extra parsley.

DD calls it "Bearing" they stand like a grizzly bear (well as grizzly as a guinea can be)

Our boar (mahoosive great lardy 3lb boar) can leap from the travel box. We take them out to the Pighouse and back, the side is a good 18" high. He gets angsty being kept in captivity he reckons. When I lift the lid he's poised on his hind legs and a couple of times he's leapt like a mighty Pegasus into the hay.
Don't underestimate their agility when they see fit

Yes, ours do-our littlest one more than the other three-possibly because she has less piggy podge to hulk about. It's a great relief to me that she does it, though, as she's a satin (and therefore potentially prone to osteodystrophy for which there's no cure) so when she's demonstrating her agility in the pursuit of food it makes me very happy.

It makes our Tricolour pig rather less happy, cos she's also fond of standing on him to get in closer proximity to snacks

DD thinks our piggie looks like a prairie dog when she stands up.

I had read that guinea pigs don't jump or climb but our two spend a lot of time sitting on their igloos and we saw some great hurdling yesterday when they were having a snoop around the house.

Are your guinea pigs getting anything nice for Christmas?

DD2 is expecting Christmas stockings for our two.

Years ago we had a piggie who ran upstairs - she was a tiny little thing, I bought her mum and she was an added bonus

Ours are all getting bigger, they are a tad Weeble~esque , so they won't fall over (though they might rock themselves to sleep )

Yes mine always did this, and they had a technique for sliding down the large back door step when they were making their way out of the house back to their hutch & run. They used to have to do a run and bunnyhop up it on the way in

Millie stands up but not unaided , she walks herself up the wire of the hutch/run with her front paws. She does it when she sees a favourite treat coming her way.

Old Boy could climb stairs. There is a quarter turn at the bottom of ours and we often hang coats over the newel post. He used to climb the stairs to get nearer my 'guinea pig coat' the special one I wear for carrying pigs in/out of the garden and gardening in , it smelt of his piggy girlfriends and he wanted to get closer to it (randy little buggar) I had to remember not to be lazy and hang the coat up properly as of course he couldn't climb down.

This year the girls the girls will properly get a paper bag to play in and naice veg.

Smooth pig stands up, meerkat style, but Scruffy doesn't. They are both excellent jumpers and will attempt jumps that the rabbit wouldn't (they aren't successful but do like to try).

Before he was sterile he'd sit by their cage and coooo like a dove or climb onto my lap if I had a piggie on my shoulder.
Not sure if it's familiarity breeding contempt (if that's the only breeding going on then that's good ) or the fact the ladyeez are so messy (I could tell when they were boar/sow apart that he was tidy and they weren't )

Both of mine do. GP1 who is generally timid to us but dominates her sister does it less so but has taken to sleeping on top of the igloo and I have taken to putting hay up there to make it warm. GP2 who is more confident will come up to the cage and rear up if there is food on the go. I have taken to putting a carrot through the bars for her high up as she will get it and not her sister.

They do for washing and occasionally if they're being nosey.

They also both jump - Bella is long jumper and will leap out of my arms into the piggypod (she doesn't like being carried). The first time I bathed them I put Luna in the kitchen sink and she leapt straight out again - a vertical jump of just over a foot !

They are getting spoilt for Christmas - DD has bought them a carrot & parsley roll, meadow grass, fruit sticks & some other treats. I have bought them each personalised towels (so DD stops using my decent bathroom towels as lap protectors ). Am sorely tempted to get them a heat pad but not sure I can really justify spending any more on them, especially as DH hasn't got anything yet!

...and they'll have something nice for Christmas dinner - probably a packet of Taste the Difference fresh stir fry veg, coriander, grapes & melon.

Ooh I've never given stir fry veg. Will try that. Can they eat bean sprouts?

I've never seen them stand on two legs. Will go and observe...

The TTD stirfry is just long stem broccoli, mange tout, baby corn & pak choi, and I'll add some red pepper & carrot.

Haven't tried them on the chilli or lemongrass that also comes in the pack!

Mine does! Very sweet. He also likes to sit with his front feet on the edge of his food bowl.
