Podgy Bunny?

Current Bun has been for his booster vaccs. As normal he was awful at the vets but we did manage to wrestle him onto the scales and he stayed long enough to get a weight. He hasn't been weighed at the vets for 2 years due to his extreme bad behaviour . Vet said he was slightly overweight and checked the amount of pellets he should have for his size. When I got home I actually weighed out his pellets and the amount the vet said was far more than he gets normally! I would never give him that amount and he never eats all his pellets usually just at the moment he is moulting and so eats more.

Can I assume that any excess weight is just down to his moult? Also as he wasn't weighed at the vets for 2 years, his gain could have been very gradual. I weigh him every month(ish) and his weight has been reasonably steady.

I was also advised to get Timothy hay at an extortionate price. I explained I had tried it several times for him and the GPs but they hated it and used it for bedding, whilst gobbling up Tescos hay.

Anyway Current Bun is not speaking to me as to be on the safe side I have cut down his bedtime biscuits.

Could be down to the calibration of the scales. What does Current Bun weigh at home, any difference from vets scales?

We weigh the GPs at home (he was 3lb spot on) but at the vets they weighed him as 1.4kg (which is 3lb 1,4oz) not a huge difference but the loss of a couple of ounces is a marker.
We weigh them in the same container/scales/on the kitchen floor so we know it's all constant .

It is strange how some animals get rangier and thinner with age (like GP1) even though their food intake doesn't alter. And some get chunkier.

If the only cutbacks he can make is the supper biscuits then you're going to be the Bad Guy for a while but he'll see the sense behind it and you're doing it for his own good.

1.4kg = 3lb 1.4 (not 3lb 14oz , that would be quite a difference)

He's claiming his weight is down to his heavier winter coat which he's just put on . It's the difference between weighing yourself wearing a linen jacket or a duffle coat.

I am the bad guy. He was stuffed in his carry case, put in the car, taken to a place which smelt of dog, a needle was stuck in him, his mouth was prised open and then he was called fat. Not a good day for anyone.

Well yes, these winter coats can add a couple of unwanted pounds.
Wouldn't want to be in your shoes though- case, car,dog smell, injection, dental and FAT

Guinea-pigs are judgey but they tell me rabbits are judgey and grudgey too.

Are you feeding a lot of carrots? They are very calorific, very high sugar content so should be given as rare treat along with fruit.
