Everyone wants to eat my bunnies :(

We got a lovely pair of rescue rabbits two months ago and they really are the sweetest little creatures - really cuddly and playful...,
Anyway since getting them I've lots count of friends who've said 'Mmmm rabbits yum, are you going to serve them to us for supper, hahaha!' Or 'what a nice collar they would make!'.
I know im being sensitive but I find this really annoying and slightly offensive - I mean i'd never salivate over a friend's dog or cat FFS!
Can you think of a good come back for when this gets quipped at me yet again?

That is horrible. Ask them for their cats and dogs to put in a pie, and see how they react. Then point out that your rabbits are pets and not dinner plans.

No witty comebacks I'm afraid but my guinea-pigs get alot of the same (from other people) WRT "oh in Peru they eat guinea-pigs, they taste like chicken"
or being called "Rats" and not in a positive 'pet rat' way.

I just say "You don't have pets then?" and follow with a "just as well really",

Love your rabbits. You know they won't end up as fur or stew. That's the most important thing.

Here they are in all their rabbity loveliness!

Awwww - and as a vegetarian I'm not even thinking about eating them or wearing them, but I am imagining how soft their rabbity fur is Grin

Sweetasstevia · 17/08/2014 18:14

Aw we yes they are incredibly soft esp on their tummies and their little waffley noses :) :)

Congrats on your new furry friends??. Bunnies are wonderful. Mine loves to watch cooking programmes (we think it's the veg he likes) but if they cook rabbit we tell him it's chicken. Confused. (I don't eat rabbit BTW).

I have 2 GPs as well and comments about eating them annoy me but I have no witty comebacks - sorry. Can you train your buns to charge at them or better still, wee on their feet?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/08/2014 20:58

Fernie who's their favourite chefs then?
Mine love Paul Hollywood (strange that, he's my favourite too Wink ) but they think the Hairy Bikers would be the type to cook guinea-pigs and James Martin would drown them in butter Hmm

FernieB · 18/08/2014 06:51

Current Bun loves Masterchef - it's the huge piles of veg in the studio and lots of people cooking at once. He's intrigued by Bake Off and sits fascinated. The GPs also like it - lots of views of fields and grass Grin

Agree about the Hairy Bikers and James Martin. Though they might have a lot of fun with the Hairy Bikers - Scruffy fancies a motorbike and he always looks as though he has helmet hair anyway.
