Does anyone take their piggies on holiday?

Hello all!
I recently "acquired" three delightful 14wo guineas.
I am due to go away though next week. I'm driving from Hampshire to Somerset

Would it be too upsetting for them to travel this far?
They're living in a large indoor cage at the mo but I'm hoping to gradually move them outdoors. (To come in during bad weather perhaps.)

I really don't want to leave them for a week. :( I seem to have fallen in love with them a teeny bit. Grin

What are you staying in? Can they get to a run outside?

Some pigs on here are well travelled and have holidayed all over the UK. So it can be done.

I haven't travelled with pigs but used to take my previous bun back to stay in the UK with us (when we lived abroad). That was a 12 hour drive and she was fine. I had her in a travel case at my feet (couldn't bear to put her in the boot) so it wasn't the most comfortable for me. I put plenty of hay in with her and one of those chew stick things. I kept her water bottle with me and offered her that every hour. The movement of the car makes the water drip out so you can't attach it to the travel case or they'll end up soaked. As it was a long journey we let her out to roam the car when we stopped.

It's not too far for pigs so they'd probably be okay so long as they are all in together and have room to move a bit. Plenty of hay and some fresh veg (although they'll probably eat that within 10 minutes). Do you have proper facilities for them where you're going?

We always used to take ours camping. They loved it!

I was going to ask about camping too!

I'll be staying in a house this time with a boot room to put the cage in.
There is a vast lawn and I'll pop the wire from the cage over them while they graze iyswim.

Glad I'm not the only one to consider this!

We took outs to a campsite that didn't allow pets once. The manager came over and we told him they were supplies- we were fattening them up for out last night dinner.Grin

Haha!
I hope he bought it!

What do you transport them in? My largish car is always stuffed to the gunnels when we go camping. I don't think we'd fit the cage in too.

We take a collapsible outdoor run and put it flat in the boot before we put anything else in then they travel in a small box full of hay and salad their dad's (ds's) lap.
