So hammy died, ds bereft

However they are 23. Only had her about 6 months and they bloody loved her, thing one carried her around in his hoodie pocket, thing two had her in his knee when watching TV. She was ok yesterday, then she did the dead, but not really thing. They gave her sips of water and cuddled her but she went. Only thing is they have one of those huge 3 story cages-could have fallen from top. Are smaller cages better? Going to wait a few weeks then get them a new one to love.

Smaller cages are better when they are older, I wish I'd made a retirement home for my hamster who sadly broke his back.

She wasn't even old. They have packed cage away, just buried her-usually they curl up to die,she was stretched out. Dint want another one right now. Just reminds you no matter how big they are, your kids are still your babies.

I do think that if your DS is 23 there really shouldn't be that much upset over a hamster dying.

Of course its OK to be upset about a hamster dying aged 23. What an odd thing to say! Your ds sounds lovely and caring, its nice that he was so attached to his pet. My dh is 32 and still gets upset when we lose rats.

I'd suggest a low cage with a large footprint like the ferplast Mary, savic ruffy or hamster heaven. Hamsters benefit more from having plenty of floor space than climbing space.

There are twin ds. They had her from as soon as old enough to leave mum and had reared her to be a lovely sociable hammy. Thing one carried her in his hoodie pocket, she would sit on thing twos knee whilst watching TV. They are just big softies.

Sorry OP, that was thoughtless of me. Of course, different people are affected by these things differently.

The world is a better place for having the soft and the kind in it.
