Is this a crazy idea for an indoor run for guinea pigs?

We have an old travel cot we no longer use. I've been thinking about using it for a run.

The piggies are about 6 or 7 weeks old now and full of energy but we haven't got the garden set up for their run yet.

If I put down plenty of newspapers to absorb any 'accidents' do you think it could work?

this sort of thing but a bit longer.

Provided you have no intention of ever using it again as a travel cot then it sounds good. Baby GPs are lively unlike the adults so they need lots of running space.

Travel cots are nice and soft and high enough to contain them (I was looking for something similar but they were all either ££ or buyer collect on eBay )
Make sure there are no holes in the mesh, they'll be there like lightning, chewing.

YY to newspaper , maybe Puppy pads underneath (last ones I bought had a sticky adhesive strip to keep in place) providing they can't chew them

Definitely don't intend to use it as a cot again! It's a bit wrecked looking and we got plenty of use from it.

I'll have a look at puppy pads because I think it would be difficult to wash the base of the cot if it got wet.

Glad it seems like a good idea. Can't wait to give them a bit more freedom. They have grown so much already that their hutch seems small.

Mine go in a travel cot and love it. I just put clean towels down (make sure you do an extra rinse to get rid of all detergent before letting them on it).
Mine like sticks and houses to play in as don't like feeling exposed too much.

Looks like a really good idea, love the idea of recycling a cot this way - would agree with 70 about the chewing tho, try and make it as guinea tight as possible. You can also use those rubber type car mats on the bottom with sheets of newspaper on top to make it reasonably water tight. Lucky guineas they will have a lot of fun exploring and it is nice and safe for them too! Enjoy! :)
