I'm besotted with my girls! Had them nearly 2 weeks now. Taming tips appreciated :)

Me! Me!

We FOUND ours on the side of the road, dumped, tank and all. We were out walking our dog, it was pouring with rain, we were nearly 2 miles from home, so we picked them up and carried them. The tank is a glass perfecto one and VERY heavy. It was a Sunday afternoon, so we had a mad dash to P@H to get everything they needed (fortunately we also have rabbits and parakeets so had some woodshavings and sunflower seeds, which we gave them to keep them going whilst we hit the shops.

Sadly, Silver passed away last week Sad. No idea how long Sandy will last - it's been 3 years since we found them so they are at least that old.

Our tank has a mesh lid that slides back. When we first had them we just used to slide the lid back and leave little treats on top. They soon learned that there was good stuff going on up there and jumped out as soon as the lid was pulled back. We then started ringing a little bell before opening the lid and they soon started running up to the top of the tank as soon as they heard it. Fab little creatures.

Hi! Just found this reply. Glad I'm not the only one..

Had the girls 2 weeks and I'm besotted. Geraldine is a little thick for a prey animal and has been relatively easy to tame - she almost runs out and into my hand now. Florence is wiser any more wary - I can persuade her onto a hand if she's in the mood but not always. I then pop thrm in a bucket with chinchilla sand and do the running around the hand thing. Geraldine will climb up my arm from there! Flo I still pick up in a jam jar as she understandably doesn't want grabbing- she'll get there..Geraldine (cream) and flo ( grey)
