Update on our new girls.

Thanks to the Super Furry posters who have advised me so far.

We've had them for 10 days now and they are doing really well.

They've been named Pippa and Poppy, nn Pip and Pop. They have definitely grown in the time we've had them.

They eat A LOT of hay and poo like nothing I have ever seen!

So far they love apple, carrot, cucumber, spinach, parsley and lettuce. Not so keen on broccoli or sweet corn.

They don't seem to believe red and yellow peppers are food and refuse to even nibble it.

The range of sounds they make is amazing and they are clever. We change around their toys and always notice when something is different.

Thinking of moving the hutch outside for the summer. Has anyone any advice or tips on doing this.

They do eat the most amazing amount of food for such little animals (and yes, it does come out the other end, in neat packages )

Try them on loads of foods, they do have definate 'likes' and 'dislikes' (ours hoover up sweetcorn especially if I can find the ones with leaves, red/yellow pepper but not green, those bags of watercress,spinach and rocket)
With all veg , only give a small amount, things like dark green veg especially. DD and I try to give a variety of colours of veg (aahh)

If your hutch weatherproof? If not , there are outdoor , animal safe paints to treat the wood.
Get a cover (large tarpaulin would do) to keep it waterproof and draughtproof (and stop over interested foxy types)
Secure wire mesh (even better, put an extra layer on) and secure bolts.

Put it somewhere sheltered and off the ground. (Against a wall if you can) Out of direct sunlight

This is the type of hutch we have. I saw a video on YouTube on how to make a cover with tarpaulin or there are covers you can buy which are quite expensive.

The hutch is in the spare room right now but they are quite noisy and throw hay out all over the place which sort of rules out anyone sleeping there!

I'd put another bolt or two on the doors and something to stop the floor sliding forward - maybe a couple of hooks and hasps ?

Never underestimate foxes- sleepingbunnies lost 2 piggies to foxes and our GP2 body was dug up twice from under flower pots where he was buried.

(Can you tell I detest foxes)
