he was a big, clever, beautiful rescue rat. We found each other, no one could touch him but the day i took him home he made himself at home down my top and that was that. love at first sight.
i got him some pals to live with and he was happy as larry. He got pneumonia and had to be pts today. I dont know how old he was. im going to really miss him - he had a huge personality and i loved him very much.
Sad

Aw very sad for Vicar-Rat but look back and know that you gave him a new lease of life.
Rescue animals have a second wind don't they and it sounds like he was loved and cherised.

He wasn't called Morrissey was he?

To The Bridge little rat Sad

he was called Dudley. after cuddly duddly - it was a book i used to read to the kids.
he was very cuddly.
i loved him very much and im going to miss him terribly. I went and held him until the injection took. Im convinced he knew it was me holding him.

He would have, he knew your touch , your voice, your personal scent.
That would have reassured him at his last few minutes.
Animals should IMO die in their owners arms or their own beds wherever possible.

The Vicar House will be much quieter tonight.

How many rats do you have Vicar?

(I love their creepy little skinny feet and I'm even unphased by their tails)

Oh Vicar! So sorry Sad. We loved that book cuddly Dudley (the penguin in the Hawaiin shirt, right?) too.

Ah bless Vic, the loss of any pet is very sad indeed. RIP Dudley Sad

i had 9 - most of them rescues. i got 2 more boys to be company for dudley. so now i have 8. but dudders will leave the biggest gap for me because he was my little soulmate.

minty - yes - my dsis bought it for my ds before she died and wrote in the front cover.....dudley just fit because he was just so cuddly (dudley!) despite his fearsome reputation....he just clearly didnt like being a rescue tank in p@h. we bonded immediately. ive no idea why. i just knew i had to have him, i walked out of the store but went back the next day to pick him up. i couldnt leave him.

its weird that he is leaving such a gap. dh doesnt like them but he was kind and comforting - he knew how much i loved him.

i do feel really stupid admitting this but i just really was smitten with him and he was very much loved and i know he loved me.
