Eglu or similar for piggies

They look so nice and are insulated for all year round. Would solve the issue of them being cramped in their indoor cage all winter but have you seen the price of them. Eek.
Anyone got one or something similar so piggies can run free all winter without worries of them getting too cold?

I love the idea of the insulation and the fact they are fox-safe (huge problem round here, mangey foxes)

But I don't know how they'd be in winter, it's the damp that's the problem as well as the cold.
They'd be easier to keep clean than a wooden hutch.

Pricewise they are £££ but what about those "Runaround" rabbit tunnels? They look fab. I'm trying to work out how to attatch a safe tunnel to my hogs house but, how would I get the little ratbags out of the tunnel and into their house when it's bed time?
I wouldn't trust the local wildlife if they were out late .

I had a rabbit Eglu ( which is the same as the guinea one). Looks lovely, nice and warm but the internal space is tiny as the walls are so thick. It's also thoughtlessly designed - water bottle hangs over the food bowl so it drips in it. I sold it and went back to a traditional hutch and run!

I have an eglu for my chickens and it really is brilliant. I know you are talking about small furries but you can sometimes get them more cheaply on gumtree if you keep an eye out. Bids rise very quickly on ebay.

We have a Piggy Pod which is similar in that it's a double walled plastic design but much.cheaper - about 150 iirc.

It's very easy to clean - 9yo DD does it all herself and can be quickly dismantled & reassembled if you.do a deep clean and dries quickly too.

It's also very lightweight compared to wood which means I can move it myself if I need to even when DH isn't around.

We have a ridiculous number of foxes round us so DFIL built a waist height enclosed stand with shutters which it lives in.

Just realised that Piggy Pod wouldn't.solve the issue of more exercise space.

I am considering the piggy pod but really wanted to ask somebody about it who is actually using it already. I would like to home a couple of guinea pigs but have no outhouse/garage/shed and no indoor space to keep them so what I need to know is, would the pod be sufficient enough to keep the piggies outside even in winter? I will obviously purchase the rain cover, use extra bedding, heat pads etc but will this be enough? I would hate for the piggies to be unhappy! Advise is much appreciated

Our girls are outside in their PiggyPod. I put a couple of inches of woodshavings all the way through and lots of hay in the bedroom. Also have a couple of mini hot water bottles if it gets really cold.

FIL built us a stand which has doors and shutters on the front so it's extra weather & fox proof. Will post a pic tomorrow.

We'd bring them in I think if it snowed or went sub zero but they've been fine all winter.

The thing I like is that they are so light and easy to dismantle if they need cleaning/moving.

The stand looks awful with the shutters on but it's very well ventilated and gives us peace of mind as we have a ridiculous number of urban foxes around here. It's off first thing and goes back on after dark so probably makes very little difference to them.

I have just bought the eglu guinea pig hutch. its bigger than I thought much better than my guinea pigs old house and so easy to use. I have been moving it around the garden and at this rate I wont have to mow the grass. I think although expensive they are fab.
