Yesterday afternoon we got 2 little gerbils, 2 little girls, one White/grey and one black. We got them home and get up the gerbilarium.

The white one is very active, friendly and busy making a mess rearranging the set up to her liking.
The black one however has only been out of the buried tube 2-3 times, I haven't seen her eat yet, although she may have in the night. She's moving around occasionally in the tube so she's alive! The times she has come out she's seemed fine, not unwell and not showing any signs of wet tail or anything.

Is it normal for the 2 of them to behave so differently? The white one will come up and sniff us, take food from us etc. the black one just hides in the tube.
Is she likely to get more brave as she settles in and gets used to her new surroundings? They're 10 weeks old btw.

Keep an eye on her but she probably just needs to settle in. Hopefully after 3 or 4 days you'll see her become a bit bolder. She may just be more shy than her sister, so long as she doesn't seem scared and is eating and you don't notice any illness then she'll be fine.

She feels safe in her tunnel. Our tame spoiled girl sometimes runs and hides in her tunnel if she is startled. Our first two gerbils were like yours, one was very friendly and would climb on our hand, the other kept out of the way at first. He (the quiet one) soon became a spoiled member of the family, who would appear every time we walked in the room hopeful for a treat. Sadly he died, but at the ripe old age of 2y 10m.

Ours are like that.1 is more confident, the other a home maker.Think it's why they get on so well.
