New rat mother

I have today adopted a lone female rat from a friend of mine whi is too ill to look after her. I have named her Luna and I am totally in love...

But I have no idea what i'm doing.

I'm looking to find her a friend as i've heard it's cruel to keep them alone? I have utilised google but I would like some advice on having happy and tame rats from you lot, of you please Grin .

I used to have two female mice (in a three storey Mouse House) and two female guinea-pigs (I was about 18yo)

The piggies used to 'visit' the mice to tell them off for being so noisy and steal their hay through the bars.
There is photographic evidence of this.

Does Luna (lovely name Smile ) have any Rat Supplies with her?
There's a post on here somewhere about Rat Foods .
And I suppose alot depends on how old she is , if she's accept a new Rat Mate.

I have a new pair of rats, they do love each others company! Check the nfrs website for breeders and rescues information as a few breeders I contacted had older rays that needed new homes as well as babies to sell.

Mine love peanut butter and pistachios. One of them loves yoghurt too but neither like yoghurt drops made for rats. Shreddies are a firm favourite already for both and that's how we bribe them out of their cage for cuddles.

One thing I've learnt so far (apart from how to get a baby rat back from under a fridge Hmm) is not to put a heavy house down unless you can pick it up. One of my rats will house in this huge wooden monstrosity when he is feeling antisocial or is shocked/potentially injured. It is a nightmare to try get him out to check he is okay. It usually involves ten minutes of bribing followed by ten minutes of making him jealous by making a fuss of his brother Hmm
